Stress got you a bit down? Or maybe you’re just on the hunt for a relaxing way to spend a few hours? Well, you’ll likely find no better – or more unique – way to while away a morning or an afternoon than at this one-of-a-kind aquarium in Pennsylvania. Marvel at the fish as they tranquilly swim in their tank. Watch as keepers feed such reptiles as crocodiles and sharks. And, embark on a tour of a reptile den.
Tucked in The Marketplace at Steamtown in Scranton, Electric City Aquarium & Reptile Den offers visitors an up-close view of an assortment of fish and reptiles.
Stroll through the spacious 20,000-square foot aquarium, which opened in 2018 and is dedicated to educating the public and providing impeccable care to the land and sea residents in the aquarium.
If you've ever just sat in front of an aquarium - whether at home or elsewhere - you just might agree that watching fish as they explore their surroundings can lull you into relaxation.
Watch the sea life - from octopus and stingray to clown fish and sharks. Then, learn more about them by reading the informational markers or asking keepers questions.
Of course, for a truly unique experience, attend one of the feedings of the octopus, sharks, and catfish. (And, if you like reptiles, don't miss the crocodile and alligator feedings.)
Then, meander through the reptile den, where you can meet the cuddly monitor Brutus or the beautiful boa Bella. Don't forget to snap photos of the frogs, tortoises, and crocodiles while you're in the den.
Electric City Aquarium and Reptile Den also hosts a variety of shows, such as The Tropics and Predators, throughout the day. Learn more about the aquarium's residents and meet a few up close during showtimes.
Keep an eye out for special events held at the aquarium. Past events include pet photographs and yoga, the latter of which is ideal for visitors six and older.
